I had dinner & a movie with the squishy and Mitchell tonight, and that was super fun, even though poor Mitchell is sick and therefore even whinier than normal. I WANT TO SEE HAIRSPRAY AGAIN SO BAD. Also, I am developing a cold.
I've been in a really good mood for two days running now.
For fuck's sake, people, it takes me quite a few hours to catch up on Heroes and I'm not even waiting for it to air here. PLEASE stop spoiling me!
Speaking of Heroes, adorable Quinto-centric cast icons, new behind-the-scenes season 2 pics (and more), and spams: Mid-res rare shots from
mata090680 and an ENOURMOUS Quinto-centric one via
canadian_turtle.
There's a few gorgeous but kind of one-note Buffy icons over here.
There is a RIDICULOUSLY adorable interview with Chris Lowell about Private Practice here. The first and last questions made me LOL. I adore him, ok?
TAHMOH! Tahmoh will be at a Creation event in Sacramento this weekend! He's replacing Jamie Bamber. Sorry, Bambi, but I'd be happier with TAHMOH.
So today I saw two movies:
Sepet
I saw this one for my Cinema in South East Asia class, and I thoroughly enjoyed it in spite of it being, essentially, an exceedingly romantic love story. The central couple were cute, especially Orked, who is an absolute delight of a character and I can completely understand why the director made 4 films about her and her gorgeous, sweet, genuine family. There were a few issues with the translations so that sometimes I felt like I might be missing something, and there's some odd things done with film stock, but on the whole it's a really bittersweet movie that challenges established Malaysian stereotypes (although to foreign eyes it's really quite tame.) The relationships feel awkward and painful and sweet at the right moments, and it's definitely engaging.

Whatever the people who made this were on, I want some of that. The people who've reviewed it at IMDb, too, for that matter. It had funny and charming moments (funny largely courtesy of Robert De Niro, charming largely courtesy of Charlie Cox, who is GORGEOUS) but it was an unholy mess of a movie. The pieces barely fit together, it changes tone constantly, and there are leaps of logic and flights of fantasy that don't make sense, as well as an ending that was downright disappointing. Did the book end the same way? Claire Danes should have been replaced, but the rest of the cast was good. I just...can't figure it out. There were almost as many unintentionally hilarious moments as there were intentional ones and some decidedly cheesy bits, too. Also worth seeing a few minutes of the just-as-gorgeous-as-Charlie Ben Barnes, who made me really look forward to Caspian. Still, I ended up going...I just...what?!

I forgot to mention how much the witches reminded me of the Sanderson sisters from Hocus Pocus, too.

I don't remember how the book ends but I've read reviews saying that the ending is different. You're right, though, Claire Danes should stop making movies because she ruins everything. I did like Charlie Cox, I'd never seen him before, and the five seconds Henry Cavill was in it. :p
