Lord of the Rings: The amount of money that New Line reclaimed in tax breaks on the 3 "Lord of the Rings" films was ten times more than the entire annual budget of the New Zealand Film Commission, which funds local film-making.

Hairspray: The song in the film titled "You Can't Stop the Beat" was nicknamed by some of the characters as "You Can't Stop to Breathe" because of the high tempo of the song and the large amount of words sung.

Singin' in the Rain: In the "Would You" number, Kathy Selden (Debbie Reynolds) is dubbing the voice of Lina Lamont (Jean Hagen) because Lina's voice is shrill and screechy. However, it's not Reynolds who's really speaking, it's Jean Hagen herself, who actually had a beautiful deep, rich voice. So you have Jean Hagen dubbing Debbie Reynolds dubbing Jean Hagen.

Y Tu Mama Tambien: The last names of all the principal characters (Zapata, Iturbide, Carranza, etc.) are those of important figures in Mexican history. The last name of the one Spanish character - Cortés - is that of the Spanish conquistador who conquered much of Mexico for Spain.

Some Like It Hot: Tony Curtis has said that he asked Billy Wilder if he could imitate Cary Grant for his stint as the millionaire in the movie. Wilder liked it and they shot it that way. Apparently, Grant saw the parody of himself and stated, "I don't talk like that."
It's only funny because he does.

Rebel Without a Cause: T-shirt sales soared after James Dean was seen to wear one in this film.

The Goonies: The music played when the kids discover the tunnel in the Fratellis' hideout by accidentally pouring water down it, is the same piece of music played in The Great Escape (1963) when the Germans discover the prisoners' first tunnel by accidentally pouring coffee down it.

Kiss Kiss Bang Bang: As a sign of support to Robert Downey Jr.'s recovery from alcohol and drugs, Val Kilmer refused to drink during the entire production.

Serenity: In his commentary on the DVD, Joss Whedon made specific mention that Chiwetel Ejiofor, 'Nathan Filion' , Summer Glau and Sean Maher all performed many of their own stunts. Summer Glau, in reality a trained dancer, used her dancing skills in River's two fights - for the second, the cameraman, who was also a dancer, moved through a gap around the combatants in order to achieve the dynamic camera angles which appear in the movie.

Rear Window: Other than a couple of shots near the end and the discovery of the dead dog, all the shots in the movie originate from Jeff's apartment.
