ORDER OF THE FUCKING PHOENIX, PEOPLE.
Uh, in case you didn't notice, tonight I saw Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
BEST HARRY POTTER MOVIE YET. They were so right to hire back David Yates, he makes even the less bearable characters half-decent and he did SUCH a good job with everything. This was finally a movie I could really get into, that had scenes right from the books and had actual CHARACTER development and EVERYTHING. I am a Prisoner of Azkaban devotee still, but the omissions from OotP weren't nearly as glaring. Everything I wanted to be good wasn't just good, it was brilliant - Bellatrix, Luna, and SO much Sirius and Harry I could burst. TWO hugs! Two! I loved Ron and Hermione standing up for Harry at every turn, and all the Ron/Hermione and hints of Harry/Ginny. Is it just me or did they also make Sirius/Remus hugely, glaringly obvious? I swear at that first meeting it almost looks like Sirius had his arm around Remus. The Ministry showdown was amazing and scary too, and Sirius's death, with Remus holding Harry back, was perfect. I'm just in AWE. DanRad has gotten so much better at acting, some of his scenes really affected me this time around. I just with Emma would stop acting with her eyebrows (and Devon Murray, who plays Seamus, would get acting lessons and a longer tie.) To be fair, though, in this movie (with a few exceptions) Hermione was more Hermione and less the new amalgamated Emmione character that she'd become in GoF. They also stacked the movie with Ron, who was BRAVE and not constantly WHIMPERING, and heroic!Neville. And the twins were great. Oh, and Umbridge! And bringing back Cedric! Bah, I can't even tell you, I loved it. It was GORGEOUSLY shot, too, they made great use of everything they had and did some good stuff with hearkening back to the earlier movies without copying or dwelling.
They kept so many great quotes in, too - I kept saying my favourite quotes in a scene, thinking they wouldn't make it in, but then the characters would say them straight after! They should've fired Steve Kloves and hired Michael Goldenberg four years ago.
The only thing that really disappointed me was the three-second Snape's Worst Memory bit and the fact that one of my favourite scenes, the Sirius/Snape showdown in the Grimmauld Place kitchen at the beginning of Occlumency, didn't happen. Of all the scenes to shorten, though, Worst Memory seems like one of the worst ideas. I understand why they didn't have the hospital visit, but that was a bit disappointing too. I wish Grawp would fall off the edge of the books and die, but they actually did a good job of making those scenes NOT suck. I don't really get the characterisation of Dumbledore in the movies, though. Richard Harris as Dumbledore was boring and had no fun to him, and Michael Gambon's Dumbledore is kind of pissy and irritable. WTF?
Anyway, I squeed, I cheered, I jeered, I cried. It was good!

I'm now curious to see how they'll do Half-Blood Prince as a movie, because it doesn't read as a theatrical book until right at the end. To be honest, not much happens. It's like Draco, Pensieve, Draco, Pensieve, Draco, Ron gets poisoned, etc. until the big stuff at the end.
Apparently, Jo saying 'never say never' means there may be an 8th Harry Potter book.
I'm doing my second spam of the LA & Dublin OotP premieres now, but tomorrow I'll do a big spam of all the recent events not including LA.

Now THIS is the movie star look.

Uh, not sure what this is.

I don't know why, but I think this shot is adorable.

Rupert: Why yes. I am the coolest person here.

AUGH. SO PRETTY. DO WANT.

I'm starting to think David Heyman has a bit of a crush on Rupert.

This picture has such pretty colouring.

LOL

I got most of the good Robert ones yesterday, but I couldn't resist posting one.

Masi has an invisiwand!

I think you're cool, Greg Grunberg.

He has an invisiwand, too.

GRUNBERG HUG TIME.

OMG Seth Green. Such pretty pale redheads at this event, yes.

See? Heliopath.

THIS IS HOW I FEEL. Dom at the NZ RotK premiere, 2003.

Dan Radcliffe just gave a pretty hilarious interview on Jay Leno 2 nights ago. I shall now see if they have it on youtube.

But ah.
"They kept so many great quotes in, too - I kept saying my favourite quotes in a scene, thinking they wouldn't make it in, but then the characters would say them straight after! They should've fired Steve Kloves and hired Michael Goldenberg four years ago."
Same here. Me and my friend kept finishing their lines, it was wonderful.

OMG! Everyone was at the premier! Harry Potter and Heroes! AND SETH! A random thought occurred to me: wouldn't Seth rock as Charlie Weasley?

And that kid in that pic with him is his brother, no?

The movie was very good, but still too choppy for me. I kept feeling like the 5 people on the planet who haven't read the book would feel disconcerted by the untied loose ends.

Truth be told the second the I finished HBP I thought, "This will make a great movie, but man it was a shitty, shitty ass book." I really think HBP will translate well to the movies, because you can convey things like quick glances that are hard to translate. The relationships will be better set up and the subplot with Draco I imagine will be expanded a bit more. In a movie, this general lack of things going on in the book will mean that they can put more focus on when stuff does happen instead of worrying about constantly having to cut things and pissing off the fans. Overall there is less stuff that *needs* to remain in tact. I think that will really help the movie in the long run.
