Westboro Fuckwits Church are apparently going to picket Heath Ledger's funeral. If their hell exists I think Book's special level of hell should extend to homophobic funeral crashers.

Ten to revive Good News Week. Since Ten were the ones who killed Good News Week, I am only cautiously excited.

Tonight I saw Night Watch

Best bit: a little boy, having been attacked by vampires, watches Buffy on TV and then starts surreptitiously whittling stakes. MASSIVE WIN.

I really enjoyed this movie. It took a bit to get used to the MTV-style cuts which have gone out of fashion for Western filmmakers and not for foreign filmmakers, it seems, but the story was engaging and enjoyable, the characters were interesting and it looked pretty fucking awesome. It felt fresher than the heavy, 'realistic' or moralistic vamp flicks we seem to get these days. The dialogue was sharp and fun and the lore was creative enough.

I'm glad the news has gotten out this early that the WBC are going to picket Heath's funeral. It gives his family and friends plenty of time to work something out to keep those bastards away. Though, if they take his body back to Australia, I doubt those fuckers will travel around the world just to be asshats.

Who the fuck are Westboro Church and where can I send a mail bomb? Seriously, how fucked up a human do you have to be to make an announcement that someone who just tragically died is now in Hell? This is the problem with these crazy Christian fundamentalists. They can't tell the difference between FACT and FICTION and ACTOR and CHARACTER. It makes me sick. I hope only the worst comes to them, painfully.

I also hope Heath's family doesn't catch wind of that, and that this "protest" will be contained by law enforcement before they cause any more pain to grieving people.

Fred Phelps and his congregation are among the most evil disgusting hateful motherfuckers on the face of the Earth.

In a way I'm glad they're so vocal, though -- they show homophobia for what it really is and trigger a reaction in decent people that ends up garnering more support for the gay rights movement. Hatemongers like them are much easier to confront than the ones who do it with a whispering campaign.

It's amazing how they will happily quote Leviticus 18:22, but they will completely ignore these passages;

...so, on another note completley, I too really enjoyed Nightwatch, enough to make me buy the book, which is really, really REALLY good!!! there's a lot more in it than the movie, and it really is a very 'grey' look at the whole light/dark thing, very sophisticated, I'm buying the other 2, reccomend it whole-heartedly!

Then again, I've found that russian, polish & czech fantasy, sci-fi, horror/supernaturaly fiction is just generally more sophisticated, literate and interesting than a lot of the pap we get. Not that there isn't some awesome stuff around from western authors, but it's often overwhelmed by the mediocre stuff...

So looks like they won't be picketing the funeral, but picketing memorial services is just as bad.

Y'know, everytime someone has explained Christianity to me, not ONCE has someone said "And then Jesus told the people to go out and hate. Just hate like blue fuckery. Because that's what it's all about people." I think perhaps the reason no one has said this to me is because HATE IS NOT THE FUCKING MESSAGE.

What a fucking waste of time. They had this idiot woman on the radio this morning talking about how Heath Ledger is in hell and I couldn't help but think "My god, they've trained a monkey to talk. And be homophobic."

Side-note: I loved Night Watch and I completely agree, it felt like such a fresh take on the whole genre.

Also, Heath's face was on EVERY NEWSPAPER I saw all day. Great big pictures of him.
