This pretty much broke my heart: Shooting of Gay CA Student Officially Labeled a Hate Crime. He was 14 and shot in the head in front of his whole class.
A little Eliza interview about Dollhouse in which she fawns over Joss, which, don't we all. She's so young, only three years older than me. I always forget how much younger than the other Buffy alums she is (Michelle excluded). And, just because I mentioned Dollhouse, MUHNEY NEEDS TO BE ON THAT SHOW.
Answers to the movie quotes meme are coming tomorrow, I promise. Don't know when, since I'm talking to my father about job interviews (feels worse than going to one, honestly), seeing There Will Be Blood with Melissa, and hanging out with Melissa and hopefully Mitchell & Kyle. My mother wants me to go to this meeting for Amway with her on Tuesday. I can't believe she joined Amway. There's something I find fundamentally icky about it. Good popcorn, though.

OMG, look what

1. What are your three favorite episodes from Firefly/Buffy/Angel? (One from each or three from all, your choice.)
I couldn't do three from each because I couldn't think of three Angel episodes (I really have to re-watch that series), so my favourite one from each:
Ariel (Firefly) - It is only as good as it is in context, I would never show it to anyone as an example of what Firefly's about, but as part of the whole series it's phenomenal. The structure of the episode, the emotional arc for Jayne, and the purpose it serves in furthering the River arc are all really good, but for me this episode's all about contrast. Watching our lot pull a job like this really drives home the enormous difference in quality of life in Joss's future. You've got people living on the rim in constant fear for their lives from the Reavers, always shot in hot brown and yellow colours with sharp camera flares, dusty and raw, and then this sanitised blue world of the Alliance. I also love how far Simon's willing to go for his sister, and the chance to see him at his best. I think the scene at the end with Mal sticking Jayne in the airlock is one of the most intense scenes of the series, and really illustrates who these people are.
The Zeppo (Buffy) - I know there are much better episodes of Buffy than this one, but I enjoy The Zeppo more than any other Buffy episode. The conversation Xander and Oz have about what it means to be cool is one of my favourite scenes in the whole series, the music is fantastic, and I love the way the show pokes fun at the melodrama that usually goes on in the end-of-the-world episodes without actually cheapening them. You know there's another episode hiding in there but we're like Xander and stuck on the outside without getting to see it. I like Xander stepping up to the plate without needing recognition for it, too.
Hero (Angel) - If all of Angel had been as good as this episode I would've stuck with it better. The death of Doyle actually made me cry and is still one of my all-time 'favourite' deaths. It's brave and tragic, yes, but it works better because he's so not that guy. He saw something that needed to be done, and he did it - not so much for the nice demons (well, for them too) but for his friends who were in danger. He mindfully took the bullet for his friend because Angel would do it for him. I like expanding Buffy's universe to one where not all of the 'bad guys' are actually bad.
2. What would you do in the event of a zombie attack?
Probably die really, really fast. I can't deny it. I'd be hopeless in that situation.
3. What shows do you think benefited most from the Writer's Strike?
I stand by my comments that Battlestar Galactica was one of the shows that could have been the worst affected by the strike, but also one of the shows that had the most to lose. With the amount of web promotion that goes on for that show and the way the DVD sales go (as opposed to the ratings in particular) they were really getting the short end considering the depth and intelligence of the writing. It seems to me that the Supernatural writers kinda fucked up a little in terms of the strike and just...jammed a bunch of ideas into one episode, based on the current structure.
4. If you could erase three films from history what would they be?
I'm loathe to say any creative endeavour should be struck from history. In which case, one would have to be The Perfect Man, since there's nothing remotely creative about that movie. I would also be a happier person if the first Scary Movie had never been made - it's not all that bad in itself, but the three million truly terrible movies that have followed (the sequels, Date Movie, Epic Movie) would not have come about if it hadn't been. And I'm sorry, but I kind of wish Titanic had never been made. I hate that movie so much.
5. You can write any storyline on Battlestar Galactica that involves the events that happened before the show, what would you write?
I want to find out how the sleeper Cylons and the final 5 (or 4) got placed in their lives and came to believe that they were human. I'm fascinated to see how that would work, particularly with, say, Tigh. That's not really the question, though, is it? Creatively I'd be most interested in writing about Starbuck, because she's got a wealth of juicy character intrigue - her relationship with Zak, passing him, his death, how that affected them. I know the bones of the story, I'd like to flesh out the character stuff.

There is still a copy of this picture stuck to the side of my computer. It's nearly three years ago now. How is that possible??
You'll thank me when it's Wednesday
