I was totally going to do that interests meme, but I lost the links I'd saved to the interests people asked me about and they're now buried in the thousands of emails I have. WOE. So, hey, let's do it in the comments of this entry!

Comment on this entry with 7 of my interests that you would like explained and I'll reply with the explanations and 7 interests of yours that I am curious about.

Oh, awesome, you found some! I forgot even who I'd asked :S

11/11 - That's a Lord of the Rings one, that is. In 2004, Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King won all 11 of the 11 Oscars it was up for. It's tied with Titanic and Ben Hur for the most Oscars ever, and they didn't manage to get every one they were nominated for. That was the best night, I was so happy.

charolastras - 'Charolastra' means 'star cowboy' in Spanish, it's what Julio (Gael Garcia Bernal) and Tenoch (Diego Luna) call themselves in Y Tu Mama Tambien.

disapproving mom stance

Image
This is the Disapproving Mom Stance, being modelled by Piz. Desmond Fellows mostly brings the Disapproving Mom out in him. It's SO CUTE, and a term coined and pretty much only used by me in the Team Piz Week spam of DOOOOOM.

dom's cold nose

Image
This is ENTIRELY [livejournal.com profile] ack_attack's FAULT. I was like 'this is one of my favourite photos of Dom EVER, because hello, shirtlesss with baby!' and Rachel was all 'every time I see that picture I think his nose must be really cold on the baby's head' and now IT'S ALL I CAN SEE. The shirtless and the baby and the adorable pale in comparison to his COLD NOSE, to the point where, when I met him and it was freezing cold outside and he was RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME I thought HIS NOSE MUST BE COLD.

ianto's stopwatch - Torchwood reference. Ianto was given a stopwatch to time how long people could be resurrected for in 'They Keep Killing Suzie' and, at the end of the episode, flirted with Jack by suggesting that there were filthy things they could do utilising said stopwatch. It must be a hell of an exciting stopwatch.

naked sean maher - I'd've thought more people would have this as an interest, because, HELLO?

Image

tahmoh penikett's ears - He has the CUTEST LITTLE ELF EARS.

Image
See? They're all pointy at the top and delicate and so not in keeping with the rest of him. It's ADORABLE!

From: [identity profile] corellianjedi.livejournal.com

I'd never noticed Tahmoh's ears until you mentioned it (a looooong while back) and now every time he stands in profile THAT IS ALL I SEE.

From: [identity profile] green-queen.livejournal.com

Kinda like DOM'S COLD NOSE, then? But, you know, way prettier. His ears are so cute. I mean, Dom's nose is cute, but when I think of his nose being cold I think of my nose being cold and I hate my nose being cold. Yes.

I forgot to do your interests! Since I think I get most of them, I'm just picking ones I like.

tango/foxtrot, 11/11, charolastras, the chaser, spicks & specks, jack nasty, hans jensen

From: [identity profile] green-queen.livejournal.com

tango/foxtrot - All the dolls (Actives) in Dollhouse are named for the phonetic alphabet - Echo, Victor, Sierra, November - and I saw someone say 'who's up for shipping Tango/Foxtrot?' and thought it was hilarious. Thus, an interest was born!

That was the best night, I was so happy.

charolastras - 'Charolastra' means 'star cowboy' in Spanish, it's what Julio (Gael Garcia Bernal) and Tenoch (Diego Luna) call themselves in Y Tu Mama Tambien.

the chaser - The Chaser is an Australian comedy troupe that started out writing a student newspaper satirising current events and ended up with several TV shows - CNNNN, The Chaser's War on Everything - and are currently doing a tour around Australia. They sometimes go way too far - two members of the team and some crew were arrested at APEC for getting past security dressed as Bin Laden - but they're also hilariously funny. In Australia we always need at least one comedian lampooning our government. Plus, boykissing! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=18vJZtZB6NY)

spicks & specks - Probably the only other Australian interest in the list, Spicks & Specks is a music quiz show. It's the Australian 'Never Mind the Buzzcocks', essentially. Celebrity guests tell anecdotes and jokes and guess the answers to questions about music. The host is a hottie and the show's really cute and fun. Plus, boykissing! (http://youtube.com/watch?v=CBSjwFGTo7Q)
(This is the best thing that ever happened (http://youtube.com/watch?v=0RpOvzQ7Ju8), though.)

jack nasty - There's a line from Brokeback Mountain that poor Michelle Williams has to say that's the worst and most unintentionally funny moment in the movie, after she's found out about Ennis seeing Jack: 'Jack Twist? Jack NASTY!' They talked about it on Oprah, how it was sort of a running joke behind the scenes and they were going to (or did?) make Jake a hat saying 'Jack Nasty'. Later in the interview Oprah was asking about Heath getting all the accolades and Jake was saying that no matter what, if Heath won he'd be in the audience applauding and saying 'JACK NASTY LOVES YOU!' See icon.

hans jensen - Another Lord of the Rings one! This is from an easter egg on the Return of the King extended DVD, in which Elijah Wood is interviewed by who he thinks is a real German journalist, but is in fact Dominic Monaghan creating brilliant, wonderful comedy. See it here (http://youtube.com/watch?v=Eqq85wyNJ0k).

heee.

awwwww I remember that ♥ I was watching those Oscars with a bunch of people from uni and we cheered like crazy for every one they won.

I should really finally watch that movie.

Hee, that sounds awesome.

Sounds awesome also. Bwahaha timewarp.

Heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee. I had no idea.

omg, I have actually seen that. I just didn't remember the name :D

From: [identity profile] green-queen.livejournal.com

Oh, man, you don't even know how cool Adam Hills is for dressing as Frank 'n' Furter in the Time Warp clip. Especially when you think that he probably did the whole show in the underwear and stockings.

OMG, you should DEFINITELY see Y Tu Mama Tambien. It's beautiful.

From: [identity profile] subtle--sarcasm.livejournal.com

Hahaha omg yes, that must have been... interesting :D

I will. It's been on my to-watch list for ages, I just didn't get around to it yet.

protective positioning

This term was originally coined by [livejournal.com profile] expatiates and refers to an episode of The O.C., in which Ryan positions himself protectively over Taylor to save her from falling debris. It's adorable.

black leather coat!

This is related to The BLC, which is short for The Black Leather Coat Appreciation Society. My braintwin [livejournal.com profile] ladyalcamy and I were fangirling Repo! The Genetic Opera, more specifically Tony Head, who is wearing an awesome Black Leather Coat in the trailer. Now we're known to start or finish our comments with "black leather coat!".

zach/zach/puppy

This was how I first got interested in Zach Levi. He showed up at an event with Zach Quinto. And a puppy. And it was the cutest thing ever.

flonkerton

That's from the The Office ep "Office Olympics". Flonkerton is one of the "sports" the come up with. It's also known as "Icelandic Paperbox Snowshoeing".

just been fucked hair

A kink of mine. R.Pattz in my icon is a perfect example if it. I love boys with hair that looks like, well, like they've just been fucked.

megageddon

Hahaha. This happened when I was very drunk and comment-spamming with [livejournal.com profile] telltale, a.k.a. Meg. She had left so many comments, and I was saying how I almost wished I had gone straight to bed so I would have woken up to have my inbox full of Meg comments. To which she replied:
LOL! One day I'll get you WHEN YOU LEAST EXPECT IT! You'll wake up and MEGAGEDDON HAS HAPPUND!

questionable content

QC is my favorite webcomic. I love the writing, the characters and the drawing style, and it's one thing I look forward every morning.

cheese, joss is god, monty python, save the cheerleader, shakespeare, some like it hot, the piz dance

From: [identity profile] green-queen.livejournal.com

cheese - uh, I'd've thought this was fairly self-explanatory. It doesn't get much more complicated. I like cheese. Especially brie. It's good.

joss is god - again, not terribly complicated: Joss is God. There is no other explanation for his awesome brain and mad writing/directing/existing skillz. He's intelligent and funny, and his shows are the best on the box.

monty python - who doesn't love Monty Python? They're hilarious. I know most people like Life of Brian best, but I prefer Holy Grail. And this one sketch where a guy's hiding behind bushes and they blow them up, I thought that was the funniest thing ever.

save the cheerleader - save the world! Just writing 'Heroes' as an interest doesn't really work for me, because people could have an interest in other heroes, but 'save the cheerleader' is nice and specific and a wonderful catchphrase for the show.

shakespeare - I was pretty much the only person in my class who LOOOOVED Shakespeare. I mostly understood what was going on, but even when I didn't the language is so wonderfully evocative and pretty, and most of the stories are eternal. Even the crappier stories are beautifully written. He's like the Elizabethan Joss Whedon :D

some like it hot - BEST COMEDY EVER. I love this movie so much it hurts. I love the way Marilyn Monroe pouts her way through, and Tony Curtis makes a weirdly convincing woman, and Jack Lemmon gets more and more into his Daphne character. The chase scene at the end is brilliant, but the best part is the last line. A real classic.

the piz dance

GREATEST MOMENT OF TELEVISION EVER.

From: [identity profile] entwashian.livejournal.com

Yeah, I didn't really need explanations for any of your interests, so I mostly I just picked ones I liked, too.

Elizabethan Joss! Heeeeeee!

From: [identity profile] green-queen.livejournal.com

You know Shakespeare is watching us now going 'That Joss Whedon, he's like me for the modern era.'

Okay, and now I'm thinking about comparing Dollhouse to Twelfth Night.

These were the only ones I didn't know and the last two I think I guessed. I don't have any interests really but go ahead and ask me questions about my strange personal habits...

a:ts
big damn heroes
frakkin toasters
jears
zoe alleyne (is this Zoe from Firefly?)
helo (BSG?)

From: [identity profile] green-queen.livejournal.com

a:ts - stands for Angel: The Series. Makes more sense than just writing 'angel' as an interest. I only really liked seasons 1 and 5 of Angel, though I've been meaning to go back to it. I just can't take the clusterfuck that is season 4.

big damn heroes - there's an episode of Firefly where Mal says to Zoe 'what does that make us?' and she replies 'big damn heroes, sir'. It became fanspeak for the main characters of Firefly, often shortened to BDH. It's so prevelant that Joss referred to the movie as the Big Damn Movie, or BDM. Ain't they just?
Apparently, it's now also a trope (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/BigDamnHeroes). Who knew?

frakkin toasters - on Battlestar Galactica, 'frak' is the substitute word for 'fuck' or pretty much any other swear word (though it's definitely fuck, because they use it in place of the word sex.) They refer to the cylons as 'toasters'. This one's a double meaning, it can either mean that the cylons are bad or that you want to jump their bones. Both are more or less accurate in my case.

jears - lol, [livejournal.com profile] ack_attack coined this one, and it's everywhere now. It's the Jack/Tears ship, or a word for Jack's tears, because Jack cries ALL THE TIME. ALL. THE. TIME. Every one of his flashback episodes, and pretty much anything bad or good happens, even if it's relatively minor.

zoe alleyne - this is Zoe from Firefly's maiden name, or original name, before they made it so she took Wash's last name. I like the idea of her keeping her name better.

helo - yes, Helo is Tahmoh's character on BSG. He's my faaaavourite. He's the fleet's conscience.
