Mmm, ok, I have to post so I can close some of my 300 tabs and actually operate my computer again.
IGN's Top 25 Women of Sci-Fi. Well, a few of them. Christina Hendricks is stunning.
Neil Patrick Harris wins at life.
Final 10 nominees for Best Comedy and Best Drama Emmys. Battlestar Galactica was unfairly snubbed. Which, I know, big shock there.
Oz: most quotable character on Buffy? No, but he had some good ones. I need an Oz icon. I love him.
Over the course of the last couple of days I have seen a few movies.
Blood Diamond
Blood Diamond was a bit all over the place in terms of tone and quality. I liked Leo much better than I have in years (I still found him skeazy in The Departed) and his accent was great, and Djimon Hounsou is always killer (and gorgeous.) There was some real Acting going on from those two, but Jennifer Connelly wasn't given much to do, and the movie jumped from political to action to...I don't know what. It was also very much a Movie With a Message - a message that they liked to beat you over the head with repeatedly, with all the subtlety of a sledgehammer. A prettily shot sledgehammer. I was left caring far less than I should have.

This one, on the other hand, left me caring more than I felt like I should have going into it. Maggie Gyllenhaal is totally captivating, but should maybe invest in a bra. She plays a drug addict former convict who's trying to get her life back together and, more specifically, get her daughter back. Watching her fumbling around trying to form a relationship with the little girl is almost painful, and the movie's pretty harrowing, but it left me thinking long after Blood Diamond left me cold.

Shelter
It's THE gay movie of the year on the interwebs, doncha know? Wow, two bad mother movies in a row. Shelter at least has the lovely positive aspect of a stable gay couple whom the little one adores. In comparison to most gay indie movies, this is practically a masterpiece. It's beautifully shot and there's a very convincing mood and tone created not only by the way the movie's shot, but by every aspect - the writing, the music, even the editing. I was enormously disappointed by a montage that took me out of that feeling and into a bit of an OC mood, and some characters were underdeveloped. I wanted to give it more, but I couldn't overlook those flaws. Still, if you want a sweet, charming gay movie, I highly recommend Shelter. The chemistry between the leads is there and natural, and the movie flows really well.

Gah, still one of the greatest photos in history.

kerrsmith2306 posted this today and it made me smile, and I hadn't seen this particular shot before, so I decided to share it.

Good day, good luck, goodbye to you
