LOL! Maggie Gyllenhaal's ad campaign makes her brother uncomfortable. It really would.

Why even MAKE a show about vampires if you're not interested in them? Interview with Alan Ball about 'True Blood'.

MOAR DR. HORRIBLE! Whedon's 'Dr. Horrible' could become first scripted Web hit, along with a picture of the too-sexy cast and crew (and a note about the other hot brother); Dr. Horrible Is Anything But, from Kristin, so full of interesting information presented in a manner that makes you want to beat your head against the screen; Dr. Horrible Preview: Whedon Rocks the Blog; OMG! Gawker Q&A with Joss Whedon!

Q: What Buffy/Firefly props have you held onto as personal mementos?

A. I have a life-sized Sean Maher made of human flesh that keeps screaming that it's the real Sean Maher and I should unchain it. Amazing technology!
(I WANT THAT PROP!)

Linked on Whedonesque and kind of cool: Coffee shop that's the 'home of the Seattle Browncoats', has a Firefly theme AND IS SCREENING 'THE GOONIES'. Excellent geek cred.

Ciao: The Best Gay Movie of the Year? It might be, according to AfterElton. Looks cute.

Go ask the cast of Private Practice (ie. Chris Lowell) questions! I will if I can think of something to ask. Somehow I don't think "Can I have sex with you?" is what they're after.

[livejournal.com profile] corellianjedi's 10 Reasons to Watch 'The Middleman'. I need to go download it.

ETA: I totally forgot that I went to the movies today, which shows you what a memorable experience this one was: Mamma Mia!

Avoid this one of you don't like cheesy romantic comedies, musicals, Abba or all of the above. I fit only one of the categories - I love musicals, but this was too cheesy even for me. I think they were going for breaching the generation gap with Meryl Streep and Amanda Seyfried, but the movie was about, and aimed at, women Meryl's age. In that department, I think it succeeded - the audience of middle-aged and older women laughed, cheered and enjoyed every minute of it. The gags were just the right side of naughty, the songs from their era. You could actually feel the spirits of everyone in the room rising whenever the three older ladies had numbers together. Everybody in the film acquitted themselves just fine - Christine Baranski was a stand-out for me - with the possible exception of Stellan Skarsgard, who just wasn't given enough to do, and Pierce Brosnan, who over-acted his gloriously cheesy heart out (not that any of the women in the audience seemed to mind.) There was a cute bit of gay interest that was handled not too badly, and Amanda has great pipes, but really - Greek fetta-fest.

The use of Greece as an exotic landscape pissed me off a bit, to be honest. The Greek characters were all just chorus - nobody interacted with them or acknowleged them as friends or anything. And how did Amanda's character grow up American if she was born and raised on that island? I mean really.

oh, I'm a little sad that you weren't very thrilled with Mamma Mia. I won't have a chance to see it until next week (though my #1 priority is to see Dr. Horrible's Sing Along Blog, so the movie theater might have to wait) but I was rather looking forward to it. I know the story and have the broadway soundtrack, so maybe it won't be as disappointing to me.

Well, my hopes weren't exactly high anyway, so it wasn't really a disappointment. It wasn't bad, exactly, just...cheesy.

Yeah, you seemed to have pegged middle aged women like myself. We love our cheesy movies and cheesy Abba music. Its lovely to be taken away from the mudane life and depressing news of the world for at least a couple of hours.
I guess I need to go see this movie, I could use a lift right now.

LOL, I've never been much for Abba myself, so that could've contributed to my feelings on the matter.
