I'm watching Kyle XY, and I have to get this out of the way. I swear I remember something about it being possible to have no belly button from childhood in Japan, when I went to bathhouses and women didn't have them. I think if you leave the umbilical cord tied in a knot it eventually...drops off, or something. I could be wrong, but I have a feeling I'm not. Anybody?

Eh, forget it. I was a kid, I was probably making things up.

You are supposed to leave part of the cord in and tie it off and it does fall off in about two weeks...that is normal.

Yeah, but I still think you can not have a belly button, so maybe I just got my stories confused. I can't remember it properly, though.

I think it's possible. I don't know if it means having completely NOTHING, but it's possible to have a faint mark rather than the full button!

I don't know much about that, but I did have a friend who didn't have a belly button. It was the result of having surgery on her stomach at an early age, though. She had a scar instead of a belly button.

It's not truly possible. It's part and parcel of being a mammal. The umbilical cord provides nutrition, oxygen and expels the waste that is transferred through the mother and the child.

The belly button is the scar left from that attachment.

Now, it may be possible to have had surgeries where that scarring has been removed. In some rare cases, the umbilical cord may have been attached in a bit of a different place on the abdomen. That would be, again, rare but perhaps possible.

Perhaps some are fortunate enough to have very small scaring where it looks as though there is no belly button at all.

Hope this helps some!

They are either aliens, genetically engineered, or had stomach surgery.

The wife from Everyone Loves Raymond had a tummy tuck and the butchered her belly button and now she doesn't have one..

...wait, what else do people do with the umbilical cord?

Someone once told me Adam and Eve didn't have belly buttons, but I was just a kid and didn't know who Adam and Eve were. I just figured there were like two people in the whole world who had missed out on belly-button lint.

...and that helped in no way whatsoever, sorry.

If you had an umbilical cord you have a belly-button. Ways around it are surgery, scars, and maybe really weird fat folds that obscure it (but you'd still have one in that case, it just wouldn't be visible).
