Is it just me, or does nobody understand the ratings system in America? That's the Whedonesque link to a few sources about the ratings of 'Dollhouse' last night: one very positive, one very negative, one somewhere in between. Then there's a heap of comments, which vary from the wildly enthusiastic to the completely disheartened ("We are doomed! DOOMED! THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING POSITIVE ABOUT THIS!) There's The Numbers, but then there's percentages, and demographics, and who knows what else. I think it's the Terminator fans who should really be really worried at this point. Me, I'm going to ride it out.

I think this comment from Xyron is my favourite:
It's weird how 4.73 million people can sit down and watch a show, and still it's viewed as a low number. I don't get that. I just don't get it.

Not just them, but there's also thousands of other people all over the world who want to see it any way they can. The networks can't seem to capitalise on that. It's pretty sad. I kind of wish that Joss would do a cable show.

ETA: Also, if I read a sentence along the lines of 'it lacks the trademark Whedon wit' one more time I'm going to hit someone.

Eh I wouldn't read too much into this weekends numbers. I think a lot of people probably went out this weekend given the candy coated holiday. And I can see a lot of the shows target audience having chosen to go see Friday the 13th (which set a R rated horror movie record this weekend) on opening night instead of staying home to watch TV so hopefully Fox will take that into consideration and give it a few weeks to build up its regular audience...

Then again it *is* Fox...

I don't understand the ratings system in America AT ALL. Here we just get how many people watch the show and the percentage it represents, period.

one interesting to ponder is: were the ratings of whatever used to be on in that timeslot better? What were the expectations?

ugh I'm tired of people hating the show too, it's like they're actually hating it on purpose you know? and it's only the freaking pilot!
