I can't believe they gave Eminem the Best Song Oscar!!

There is a very great deal of raving and reviewing to be done tonight, so if this is anyone's least favourite aspect of the Bronze, after the brief rundown of my day that follows this sentence I suggest you skip right down to Link of the Day.
Today I got up, ate Maggi noodles, tried to hold off having panadol and managed until midday, went for a driving lesson in the manual (stalling it about 50 times,) went to uni, watched Breathless (reviewed below), saw the end of Year of Living Dangerously which I will see properly later, saw Phoebe, picked up film studies assignment sheets, called Mum who picked me up because I'd forgotten my wallet, came home, missed midnight, read some Smallville slash, had dinner, and proceeded to watch TV the rest of the night.

Review time! In order, Breathless, the Oscars, 24 (except the last 15 minutes which I missed), Queer as Folk (which I missed most of because of stupid news), Buffy.
Breathless
It's a French movie made in 1959 by Godard and is part of the French new-wave movement (see the knowledgability that is Katie?). It's got Jean-Paul Belmondo in it, who I actually did an assignment on once, and it's kind of a weird comedy/gangster movie type thing, and very very cool. It mostly focuses on this really charming gangster type guy and his New Yorker girlfriend in Paris, and them escaping the law. At first I didn't get it, and it took me a while to get into, but I think I had a better time with it since I didn't have to read the subtitles much. It's got a lot of silent film references and cool camera-panning, and it was just so much fun to watch. Who new classics could be fun?! Not me, anyway.
Oscars
Got bored with hearing the Chicago music. How cool was it that they awarded Eminem the Oscar?! And I loved the reaction shots from some of the highbrow actors in the audience, and especially from Babs. That was great. A couple of suprises but no huge ones--Best Supporting Actor and Best Actress could be seen a mile away, and Polanski for Best Director was just a gesture. Steve Martin was funny. Michael Moore ROCKS!!! His speech against Bush was *very* cool. Adrien Brody's was kinda sweet, too, though. Did you know he was the youngest Best Actor award winner at 29? That's kinda sad. The youngest Best Actress was a *lot* younger. Lemme see...Kirk and Michael was oddly sweet, I liked the brief shot of Richard Harris, and if Return of the King doesn't win Best Film next year I'm boycotting the Oscars until I can stand it no longer *nods*
24
Spoilers... Well, of course Jack was going to get away (but he touched a nerve there for a bit with Nina), and that car crash with Kim was kinda silly. But hey, finally, Jack meets (half-earless) Kate! They do have some nice chemistry there don't they? Lol, funny quote from the TWoP review about the two hugging terrorists: "Wow, they really are America's worst nightmare: Islamic fundamentalists and sexually deviant." OMG THEY KILLED REZA!!! *sniffles* and he was hot, and I *really* like him. Didn't see it coming with the sister, saw it coming with everyone else. Almeida's girlfriend is so going to be evil.end spoilers
Queer as Folk
So yeah, I missed most of tonight's because the news on SBS went on longer than usual, making Queer as Folk and Buffy overlap *sniffles* I knew what was going to happen though. No Ethan appearance, lots of Brian-angst, and a cute Emmett subplot. Not really my scene. Rehashing of George and Emmett is always cute, they were so sweet, and I like the way they deal with the older-younger situation so nicely. It doesn't even seem icky anymore. Brian angst was kinda harsh, he wasn't well treated tonight. For once he actually wasn't being an asshole, just saving his job, and yet Justin blew him off anyway. And not in the nice way that Brian likes. Though it is necessary to the advancement of Ethan and Justin's relationship, so I'll tolerate it. Brian was kinda hot sometimes tonight, but no raw emotions were there, so not so much. I wish they'd picked a better episode to throw in their first Queen song.
Buffy
Saving the best for last. Most of tonight's eppy was nothing too flash, but the end was really good, and very funny. The single best element of tonight's Buffy was Spike and Xander working as a team, though. That was just too funny. Spike's not curly-haired anymore, which always sucks *sniffles*, but he looked sexy and dark like he used to. Xander looked really good too! He's losing weight :D Their terribly elaborate "plan"--chasing after RJ, tackling him, and removing the facket--was very cute. And the split-screen was fun. Also, Buffy and Spike running back and forth outside the great Principal Wood's office with that very big gun. Bazooka? Missile launcher? I dunno, it was just funny. Dawn struck me, for the first time, as somewhat irritating. "I have no chance, I'll just die." Blah. Willow tried to make RJ a girl!
"His physical presence has a penis!"
"I can work around that."

Okay, onto the goods. Link of the day is The Smallville Slash Archive, because it's good. I have a fondness for Dustbunny, which is just corny, and Subtext, which makes extensive use of my LotR slash obsession, and there's a series whose title escapes me that are very, very funny. I'm into the fuzzy happy stories more than the angst, although there are a few angsty futurefics that pull it off well.

Pics of the day. Have I used the "They're practically married" pic before? Well, here it is, if I haven't. Along with a doll I made (that's me on the left and angelnurse on the right, click her name to see her lovely baby blog) and a cute Lexy pic, to celebrate the new Smallville season starting in Oz next week! I just...his little face!! :D

Ciao for now
