Let's go Dom crazy!

Dom's Favourite Weekend (LA Times article).

'I Sell the Dead' picked up for limited release! Yay!

Dom on Jimmy Kimmel: his interview, his bit in JJ's video (OMG 'STAR TREK'. WANT TO SEE SO BAD. CAN IT BE NEXT WEEKEND NOW?!?!?!)

A positive review of Dom's part in 'Wolverine', although the whole review being over-the-top positive kind of dampens the effect..

Discussing Wolverine on Hollywood 411.

And tonight I went to see X-Men Origins: Wolverine

I laughed until I cried, and it was clearly unintentional. Most of the action scenes failed to get my heart rate up too much because I was laughing at all the ridiculousness. This movie had only the barest semblance of a plot, every cliched line in the book, almost no character development, and one of my favourite bad lines of recent years:

Only an adamantium bullet can stop him now!

Um. What?!

Things I liked:
- Dom. Admittedly, he doesn't get to do much, but still, it's Dom on the big screen being adorable.
- Gambit's card tricks.
- The way Victor moves on all fours and bounds off walls. It's very cool.
- Large amounts of gratuitous nudity/semi-nudity. Wolverine even has the decency after hearing the Love Of His Life screaming bloody murder to remember to remove his shirt so that he's just in a wifebeater for the big fight scene.
- On that note, Ryan Reynolds' arms and Taylor Kitsch's smile.
- I actually like the Vietnam War and soldier team stuff at the beginning. If the film could've spent more time on that and less time being episodic and deeply stupid, it would've made for a more complex, more interesting movie. Also, I could stand to see more of ALL those guys - they were cool, intriguing characters that were barely given lip service. The transition from Wade to Deadpool/Weapon XI would be fascinating (and I wanted Deadpool to live, dammit!)

Things I (particularly) disliked:
- The plot contrivances to get Wolverine from point A to point B.
- Gambit's fight with Wolvie coming just as he can see Wolverine with HIS CLAWS THROUGH VICTOR'S BODY. Seriously. Why the HELL did Gambit fight with Logan when his jailer and torturer was RIGHT THERE?! Why did he stop Logan from killing him? ...and then become his BFF five seconds later?
- The mutant kids. Emma Frost, wtf. That kid who wasn't James Marsden.
- The fact that if I was even remotely interested in a character or idea, it had to be immediately terminated.
- Everything to do with the girl, particularly the fact that the actress was actually quite beguiling and tried hard with a role that was the biggest plot contrivance in the movie. Oh hey, he's at war, he's a soldier doing morally ambiguous things...he's walked out...he's DOMESTICATED! In the NEXT SHOT! Terrible.
- The whole ending, except Deadpool, but since that was ruined...the whole ending.

Things I found LOL-worthy:
- Wade's dialogue at the start (for the right reasons)
- ADAMANTIUM BULLET!
- The dialogue in the bar fight scene between Victor and Logan (for the wrong reasons)
- Wolverine's ANGRY POSE! that he breaks out every five seconds
- The love story about The Moon And The Wolverine
- Other best thing ever: LUMBERJACK!WOLVERINE. He cuts down trees, he eats his lunch, he likes to press wild flowers. He puts on women's clothing and hangs around in baaaaaars!

I really liked the Star Trek movie (I never watched any of the old movies/series but I'm familiar with the verse).

I don't think I'll go see Wolverine, will wait for my brother to buy the DVD or sth.

I only read 2 volumes of Deadpool so far, but that kinda had nothing to do with his actual story. Ryan, who is a huge Deadpool fan, pretty much apologizes for the movie in every interview I've seen with him. But he also says there's still the possibility of a DP movie, in which he will only participate if it's done by people with respect for the source material. And I heard one of the after-credits scenes is him picking up his head and walking away, so all is not lost ;)

That aside, pretty much everything that did not involve Wade/"Deadpool", Gambit or Dom was really bad and ridiculous. Including the cgi, which amazes me. The claws alone actually looked better in the earlier movies, how is that even possible?

From: [identity profile] kilted.livejournal.com

that's because the claws in the other movies were "real"- like the made claws out of plastic or whatever and glued them on like they do. These were all digital and just really unfinished.

Also, I wish that's what the after credit scene was. It's not really... :(

Ooooh okay that makes sense. The weirdest thing about it was that the claws kinda looked different in different scenes? Like, sometimes they would actually look pretty okay and then in the next scene they looked like someone drew them on in Paint.

*sigh* Yeah I saw the scene on youtube now. ... *sigh*

Ugh, yes- I completely agree.

*shakes head* So dumb.

There're actually *two* after-credits scenes - different prints of the film have different ones. So the Deadpool one still is out there...

I realized that Saturday night. We've got 3 prints at my theatre. Two of them have the Deadpool scene where he goes "Shhhh" at the end (which is the one I originally saw and was displeased with) and the other has the one where Wolverine's in a bar.

That scene at the very, very end just ruined it for me. That was unnecessary. Deadpool had gone out a pretty badass way and then that? UGH.

And seriously, I would have liked a bit more stuff on the whole team.

Ahaha, lumberjack!Wolverine ftw. In a really sad way.

I went to see it last night and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I wasn't expecting an Oscar winning movie (which it wasn't) but I love silly boy films and that is exactly what it was. I do have one complaint though; not enough Gambit. *melts* :)
