You know what? Sometimes it just sucks being a non-American Lost fan. You guys get all the cool stuff. Plus I can't be involved in this fandom thing I really REALLY want to take part in. Nor can I submit questions for the Damon/Carlton podcast, or vote on their theme song, or watch the show on my TV every week. We don't even have TiVo in Australia. The internet is, of course, an absolute lifesaver in terms of fandom - at least I get to watch the show not long after you guys and be involved with things like The Fuselage, Naveen-Andrews.net and the great fan community - but I feel like I miss out on a lot too.

I don't necessarily want to be American or dislike being Australian, but it's so inconvenient sometimes. You feel like an inferior fan by virtue of distance.

I wish Tom and Nina would hurry up and visit already.

Ugh, listen to me feeling sorry for myself.

I feel you.

At least you speak the same language. No language barrier between you and fandom *sigh*

God I <3 the internet *lol* Lost S1 started here last summer and S2 will start this fall. And as far as I know the ratings for Lost aren't the best so ...only God knows, maybe they'll cancel it halfway through. Wouldn't be the first time (they stopped Angel mid-season four and never showed the rest wtf?)

Why can't you vote on their theme song?

Yeah, they stopped airing Veronica Mars here halfway through season 1. Asshats.

Try being Canadian... so close yet so far. We get all the cool shows when, but can't participate in contests, and get extra content. I wanted to see the alternate ending for a VM episode, but it wouldn't let me because I'm not from the US. I totally get where you're coming from. I don't want to be American, I love being Canadian, but fandoms have no international borders!

*applauds*
I feel the same way. The internet brings us closer to the actual events, but not close enough and there are often things we miss out on, just because we live an ocean (or several oceans) away.

Yup, it sure does suck. Thank goodness for the internet. I come from Ireland, and some of my family and friends there are fans (partly because I introduced them to Lost), but I'm studying in England, where they won't be showing the second series for months, and nobody seems to watch it - they're all too busy watching Desperate Bloody Housewives.

I feel your pain. My stupid country hasn't started to air season 2 yet and when it will, it'll be in French (argh). No way I can participate actively in the fandom. *sigh*
yes the internet is a lifesaver. But when you're on dial-up it's also a big tease. *pouts*
I do not wish I were American but I wish we could Apparate lol. It would make things so much easier.

And you know what else sucks. Australia and conventions. We either don't have them or have to pay an arm and a leg to actually get to them...Just once I'd like to be able to go to both ORC and ELF and not have to promise arms, legs and firstborn children.

OMG yes. Although I've met some pretty damn cool people, and I probably wouldn't have met Peter Jackson if I weren't in Australia.

I haven't ever been able to afford one of the really big international conventions though, and I do so want to go to one. I want to meet all the Hobbits. And Nathan Fillion.

I just discovered that Wentworth Miller played Gage in the episode of Buffy where Xander wore a speedo and had to share it. Dude.

If it makes you feel any better, I'm IN the US and can't go to everything. Haven't been to an ELF or an ORC. Probably won't be able to be at DL:A this year.

It's not like any of these are right around the corner from me - I'm down here in Texas. And money's tight all around. *sigh*

I appreciate that. It's not just conventions and things, though - this fandom thing I wanted to be in would have come to *me* if I lived in the States, which is just crazy. I can't go in any competitions or join certain websites or buy a lot of fandom things. We have to wait so much longer to get our hands on stuff like DVDs.

LOL even if I liked Doctor Who it wouldn't be any different. Are there ANY fandoms that originate in Australia??

From: [identity profile] kry-86.livejournal.com

I visited Australia in September and fell in love with Xavier Rudd and Pete Murray. I also was a little obsessed with Uluru if a landmark can be a fandom.
