Please remember at all times: this is my opinion. Yours may well differ. You can feel free to put in your own two cents in the comments, but don't flame me for what I like, and don't tell me I forgot anybody. I didn't. I just made my own choices.

5. Kate Austen/Ryan

She's beautiful.

She's sexy.

She's tough

capable and strong in a crisis

and dangerous

but still fragile and afraid.

4. Veronica Mars

She's beautiful.

She's sexy (I like the 80's look.)

She's tough

and unrelenting

with serious attitude to match.

She's in a real relationship with chemistry that doesn't completely define her character.

3. Kara 'Starbuck' Thrace

She's beautiful.

She's sexy, and very sexually charged.

She's a soldier

who's tough

and is more badass than half the men on the show

but she's vulnerable as well.

2. Faith

She's beautiful.

She's sexy, in a dangerous way.

She's tough

and she fights the baddies

but she's deeply (and convincingly) broken.

Definitely badass.

1. Zoe Alleyne

She's beautiful.

She's sexy.

She's a tough ex-soldier

really tough

bordering on ridiculously badass

and yet she's still feminine, even though she's stoic.

And finally, she was in a real relationship with chemistry that didn't define her! Watch and learn, Eric Kripke.

Awesome top 5! Though I dont know the one character from BSG because I have yet to watch (i know..I suck, lol)

From: [identity profile] green-queen.livejournal.com

You should see it all at once, on DVD. It's really good that way, trust me.

From: [identity profile] kballgetlost.livejournal.com

Oh I plan to! I watched all 7 seasons of Buffy in one month...I need to recover from that awesomeness first, lol...but I will eventually get to BSG

From: [identity profile] green-queen.livejournal.com

Faith is definitely one of my favourite Buffy characters, and I LOVE Eliza. I have a huge number of pictures of her, over 1000. She was my first real girl-crush.

From: [identity profile] little-sparks.livejournal.com

As soon as I saw the title of the post All of these came to mind. My only add-on would be Callisto from Xena:Warrior Princess, I know it's cheesy and badly scripted but she kicks ass.

From: [identity profile] green-queen.livejournal.com

I didn't watch Xena on a regular basis, just in passing. I want to go back and watch old Xena and Hercules episodes so I can see the LotR boys though XD

From: [identity profile] sargraf.livejournal.com

I love you for this. That is all.

p.s. ZOE!!! *fangirls* That icon is gorgeous. Is it up for grabs?

From: [identity profile] green-queen.livejournal.com

Zoe, Faith, Veronica and Starbuck all rate in my top five favourite characters on their respective shows, and Zoe is my ABSOLUTE favourite Firefly character. Clearly strong women are not a problem. *grumbles*

I didn't make this (absolute love of my life) icon, [livejournal.com profile] cartographies did, but I do believe it's up for grabs. You might want to pop by that journal and mention you're using it and make sure you credit is all.

From: [identity profile] sargraf.livejournal.com

Zoe is perhaps my favorite female character on TV. I am just now getting to know Aeryn Sun, so that might change, but nobody can touch Zoe right now. She's just everything I yearn for in every female character I see, especially the ones with paper thin characterization.

I haven't watched BSG yet. It might be silly, but I tried to watch it last week or the week before, and the directing turned me off. I wanted to watch the characters, but it felt like the director was trying to act for them with the dizzy close-ups and such, and never staying still. I get tired of that sort of directing really quickly. Is it all like that?

Thank you! I always credit, and I'll be sure to drop by that journal and comment about it. *hugs*

I never got to see Farscape, though I plan to do so one day. The girl who plays Aeryn Sun was good in Pitch Black, though. Zoe really is the absolute eptimome of the tough chick without losing her humanity. The moment when she goes ballistic on the Reaper in Serenity is perfect. I love her.

Yeah, that's understandable. The battle sequences slow down a lot once the series gets going and focusses more on the character drama, and they're REALLY good characters. It continues to have a bit of a documentary feel, but it's much less dizzying. Trust me, I'm not a fan of that style either - I never could figure out what was going on in BSG's early battle sequences.

You have to watch BSG. It has Gaius and Six and Starbuck and HELO. *points to icon*

From: [identity profile] sargraf.livejournal.com

*shows off sparkly new icon*

I haven't seen Pitch Black, but I'm absolutely loving Claudia Black as Aeryn Sun. She's different from Zoe, more firmly cut out of the Touch Soldier Chick mold with little humanity, but from what I hear, that develops as she comes to trust her friends and John Crichton in particular. Zoe, though. She just rules the world, that's all.

The BSG characters seem to be worth braving the dizzy directing, so I'll be giving it a try, definitely. (Is that guy Gaius or Six or HELO?)

From: [identity profile] green-queen.livejournal.com

Gee, that icon looks familiar. ;)

Pitch Black was by far the best action scifi I've seen in a long time. Just as a popcorn movie it's really fun and clever and the world it creates is striking. You should see it.

Nobody beats Zoe, because Zoe wins. Do you SEE her in the icon? And in the pilot, when she gets shot, then shoots from the ground with her rifle? It's poetic. I adore her.

This post (http://green-queen.livejournal.com/604738.html) is relatively spoiler-free and will introduce you to the main players and show you just how pretty they are. This, in my icon, is Helo. He is played by Tahmoh Penikett and he is one of favourite hot guys. I LOVE him.

From: [identity profile] sargraf.livejournal.com

Hee. :)

I'll have to check it out, thanks for the rec! Well done scifi is so much love for me. Almost as much love as fantasy, although if they made more movies like LotR (and less like D&D), I'd never want to watch anything else.

Dude. Her shooting from the ground was kick ass. I said it out loud when I saw that, "Oh my god, I love this woman." What can you say? Zoe wins.

Ah, thanks! (He looks like a fun, mischievous sort. Is he? :))

From: [identity profile] green-queen.livejournal.com

Scifi and fantasy is woefully underrepresented at university. I love it and I've done two scifi films (Star Wars and Blade Runner) and zero fantasy films in my entire university career. And I hate Blade Runner.

Zoe actually grew on me, because I saw the movie first and having her introduced as the girl who shoots stuff and whose husband dies is more sympathy-inducing than INSTANT LOVE. Then again, I usually don't fall in instant love with the characters who end up being my favourites. I liked her a lot, but I think it was the whole series plus the movie and seeing the different aspects of her character that won me over.

Tahmoh is very fun and mischievous. Helo is when he gets the chance, but BSG is pretty dark, there's not much time for levity. He's more sweet and noble, really.

i totally agree with all your choices. even if kate is pretty far down on my list of favorite 'lost' characters, she is pretty impressive. :D and wooo, starbuck. that promo pic where you can see her tattoo is **hot**. XD

From: [identity profile] green-queen.livejournal.com

Kate's been growing on me, actually. I think Evi's acting is improving, and she is really gorgeous.

Starbuck is awesome. The end.

From: [identity profile] killerbeautiful.livejournal.com

yeah, i'm almost done with season 2 and i do like her a lot more than i did in season 1. the part in 'what kate did' where she's rambling re: why she hates that she's attracted to sawyer really got to me; and i definitely agree that e.l.'s acting is getting better. i just watched disc 1 of season 1 with some friends the other day and was shocked by how stiff she seems by comparison.

From: [identity profile] green-queen.livejournal.com

Evi really was thrust into the spotlight with season 1, she'd barely acted before and suddenly she was a lead on one of the biggest shows on TV. I think she grew into the part - in season 3 so far she's shown a lot more subtlety than before.

From: [identity profile] green-queen.livejournal.com

I caught a few episodes of it when I was younger but it didn't grab me.

From: [identity profile] exsequar.livejournal.com

*clutches list to chest* Yes, yes, yes, yes, and yes!!! I would have rearranged the order SLIGHTLY, but hey, I'm stupid with love for Faith ;) Last night an old friend of mine told me he just started watching BSG (yay!!) and he said "Who's your favorite character? Starbuck?" and I said yeah! How did you know? and he said "You have a thing for tough chicks." I kinda stopped and went Huh! I do! In terms of pairings, I totally go for slash, but when it comes to characters, it's women like this that really push my buttons. Mmmmm. Fabulous list :)

From: [identity profile] green-queen.livejournal.com

I love Faith too, but Zoe is my favourite character on Firefly and also the ultimate in tough chicks. She's unlike any other character I've seen on TV before.

My favourite characters tend to be sexy, morally conflicted heroes with dark pasts, but to be honest a lot of them are a big mix. Zoe, Tara, Helo and Piz couldn't be more different and they're all favourites.

From: [identity profile] cinnamontwist.livejournal.com

Fantastic list and a point well made. :) Zoe and Faith are such great characters.

From: [identity profile] green-queen.livejournal.com

Joss really knows how to write them, doesn't he? Both of the top two on my list are there for a reason, man.

From: [identity profile] jadziadrgnrdr.livejournal.com

Woa. Good list.

Seriously though I'm only a fan of the top two and I woudl put them in that order too! I love Gina Torress with the heat of a thousand suns. From Cleopatra (on Xena), to Nebula to Hel, to Zoe to Jasmine, just LOVE. Faith is one of my fave characters ever as well. I dont' watch the other shows. I've seen BSG and Veronica both once and I did like both Starbuck and Veronica so like I said, good list. :o)

From: [identity profile] green-queen.livejournal.com

Gina Torres is a goddess and I love her. I think she should play Wonder Woman.

Veronica Mars and Battlestar Galactica are two of the best shows on TV right now.

From: [identity profile] flamingo-killer.livejournal.com

I like your list, even though I haven't seen BSG, btvs, or firefly (YET I promise!!). I definitely also would add Sydney Bristow, Irina Derevko, and Lauren Reed, all from Alias. They're definitely all sexy but VERY hardcore and dangerous. Rock.

From: [identity profile] green-queen.livejournal.com

Now, I'm no Alias expert, but every time I watched that show Jennifer Garner cried. I liked her better in 13 Going On 30. I like Irina Derevko, though.

From: [identity profile] flamingo-killer.livejournal.com

Ok, fair point: she does seem to cry a lot. Though her life DOES suck, admittedly. But she kicks so much ass it's kind of ridiculous. She steals nuclear weapons, kills dozens of baddies at once, jumps out of crashing planes...a;lsdkjfa;lksdjf.

Irina > everyone.
