AHAHAHA THIS IS AWESOME. Prison Break: The Short Version (Part One).

Also awesome: [livejournal.com profile] kroki_refur's Ten Expressions in Houses of the Holy. It's not as funny if you're not familiar with Ten Expressions, but it's still genius. While I'm at it, more interesting Supernatural meta from [livejournal.com profile] angstslashhope. I hate that this is the show I'm least interested in as a show and most interested in as a fandom. The meta, fiction and spam for this show is intense and wonderful, but the show itself is constantly letting me down.
Sometimes I wonder whether Supernatural wouldn't be better as a silent show with a hard rock soundtrack, letting the audience filling in the gaps. The boys and car are gorgeous, of course, but it's the cinematography of the show that does me in every time. It pushes all my film geek buttons, all the pretty things I love to see in the film medium. It has focus shifts and loads of moving shots and a disctinc colour palette. The visual framing is amazing, the shot composition is brilliant. They use sets and locations to the best advantage possible. The only problem with that plan is that the boys are really good and there are some great one-liners - it's just that some of the ideas are terrible.
It's very much Kripke's style to go for the obvious gag, the one we're all thinking of (for example: Andy's 'these are not the droids you're looking for' in Simon Said, Dean's 'you're fugly' to the Scarecrow) and that's part of its charm, but it's also one of its greatest shortcomings. Nothing is implied, everything is stated. As an audience, we aren't allowed to figure anything out for ourselves - everything is laid out on the table, in highly fraught, beautifully shot emotional scenes between Dean and Sam and the Metallicar and Daddy and whoever's around that week. If it weren't for Jensen (and increasingly Jared) the show would feel like being hit over the head with a very attractive, classic-rock-playing mallet every week. I can't stop watching and there's so much about it I love, but at the same time it's the most frustrating of my fandoms.

Uh, now that that rant's over, go ask Kripke a question. I managed to do it without ranting! Which mean that I only asked if the boys were ever going to hug. Still, it's impressive that I got that out without asking whether, say, he has ANY grasp of characters, or whether he's anti-atheism, or why they're trying to take from Dean the few things that were his to start with and make this the Sam Show. There's a question I really like on this page by teague which has a good take on my dissatisfaction with how Dean's treated.

I'm pleased to notice that lately there has been a definite shift in the Veronica Mars fandom away from hating Piz and towards either tolerating or liking Piz. I think he's being written really well. The consensus seems to be that he's an OK character but not a good match for Veronica.

Links to Veronica Mars pages including costumes, locations and a couple other goodies.

I use the S2 Flexible Squares layout. I used tutorials at [livejournal.com profile] s2flexisquares to figure out how to do everything, but of course I've forgotten now. I hope you can find what you need there!

LMAO It's also not as funny if you make the same mistake I did and think it's actually about the Led Zeppelin album of the same name. :D

I knew that title sounded familiar! There's a shock, a Supernatural episode with a classic rock reference in the title.
