So I have this little 16-year-old friend who used to work with me and now he's moved back to Brisbane, and he is making me very worried about him. Mostly because his family keeps beating him up. That kid needs a whole new family, and a decent job, and to go back to school. I feel a bit helpless, since there's nothing I can do for him.

Empire's 500 Greatest Movies of All Time. Usual eclectic Empire-style list, which means quite a few of my favourites have made it into the 300-strong list already. Keep checking back for more.

The results of the EWwys: far more satisfying than the results of the Emmys, but Mary McDonnell should've taken it. Still, even though I know Jensen only won because it's an online poll and the Supernatural fans are...intense...he deserves an award for his incredible acting. And his face. His beautiful, beautiful face.

Just because a guy is young and good-looking and stars in a sci-fi/horror series doesn't mean he's not a terrific actor

Can't you call the authorities in Brisbane? Its worth an attempt. You don't have to see the abuse just know of it to report it....at least here you do.

He's moving out, I think, but now he's worried about his baby brother. I don't know where they live or much of anything, really.

By all means if he is worried for his baby brother then he needs to contact the authorities. I would say any kid that suffered abuse is most likely going to see the same thing happen to a kid brother.

Parents like that need serious help but the kids need it first.
