Goooooorgeous movie poster picspam.

You know how sometimes I say that when this show's good, it's really good? Well that episode was really fucking good. Like, from start to finish, I loved almost everything about it. Jensen Ackles needs to win some kind of acting award yesterday, because he pitched both present!Dean and future!Dean absolutely flawlessly. Also he's pretty. It's not just that though. The episode balanced edge-of-your-seat tension with the right amount of humour (FUTURE!HIPPIE!CASTIEL FTW) and it was shot beautifullu (just like Croatoan, which I kind of want to go back and watch now.) The showdown between Dean and Lucifer-in-Sam-in-Lex Luther's clothes was amazing (although I do want to know why Dean didn't just ask what made Sam say yes.)
The arc of Dean and Sam's relationship in the episode was pretty damn impressive too. I'm sure they'll tell us eventually, but I think Dean knew that cutting Sam off was where he'd fucked up, that they are stronger together. No matter what stupid things they do, in the end they really only ahve each other to keep the other sane, and they need that. At least, I'm hoping. Did everyone else hear Dean say the L word? He did! I heard him.
And I really, really love Dean. He will keep sticking it to everyone until there's nobody left to stick it to, and even after a crazy ordeal he'll keep making jokes. Oh, also, did I mention that Misha Collins rocks hardcore?? He really did just stand there at the edge of the road for four hours waiting for his appointment with Dean. Win. He did the drugged-out, washed-up version of Castiel so we. "That's how I roll." I'm so sick of everyone calling him Cass, though, I'm half-waiting for someone to break out 'Cassie' and make me lose faith entirely. I think seeing the Impala all busted up was the show's way of showing us even before we saw future!Dean that he was really, really fucked up beyond all caring (again, I'm guessing that's because Sam was gone.)

OH OH AND IT HAD ONE OF MY FAVOURITE SUPERNATURAL THINGS: an awesome music scene. "Do You Love Me" while the army shot up the Croats? AWESOME. The editing and everything, it was so perfect and crazy and violent and wild. I LOVED IT.

The only quibble I have - did they HAVE to imply that the girl had a thing with Dean? Really? She couldn't just be her own person? Or have another girl as well, one who wasn't all into him? Augh.

[livejournal.com profile] baldie_troll just linked me to this, which is interesting: Video about sexual objectification in video games & a point of view from a gay gamer perspective. Oversimplified, but intriguing.

What? I like past!you.

Mm I'm downloading a glorious 1080p of Star Trek right now. I'll be capping and sorting so there won't be 9,000 caps on in a zip. It'll have a zip and a gallery. It will perhaps have about 4,500 sorted, I'm guessing since I'm keeping the planets and ships in there. They'll probably be up on Monday what with my internet being so janky at home.

Yes. I think S5 of SPN has proved why this is my favorite show. And it was still my favorite show as of S1. So yeah. This show makes my heart go putter pat in a way no other one does.

I HAVE HEARD RUMOURS OF THIS VERSION FLOATING AROUND. DO WANT.

I will always have a love/hate relationship with Supernatural. I'll neve be able to let go of my righteous feminist rage long enough to love it as much as I do many other shows. I have some other problems with it, but the feminism is the most insurmountable obstacle, because their portrayal of women is awful. Man, it can be powerful, though.

I went back to the forum I got them from but the links are gone now. Huh. I had them saved in a sticky but I deleted them as I copied them into DownThemAll. Sorry, I would have shared. :/ I'm sure more will pop up and someone will share.

I have no rage for anything. I get that people have major issues with the portrayal of African American characters and women but I don't (I read a meta and apparently being racially colorblind, like myself, is bad but...*shrugs*) and that's how I like it, personally. I'm REALLY easy going with everything. I'm like a ball of sunshine. And also 99% of "symbolism" goes right over my head. I'm slow like that. But then again it's tv, and while I love it (and this show) to death, it's not real life, it won't be portrayed like real life. I'm all for women's rights and racial equality in real life of course. I keep my thoughts to myself mostly because if I shared this kind of thing outside my flist, I'd be flogged for sure.

Eh, I grew up in a pretty damn multicultural environment, but I learned to spot sexism and racism through several years of Gender Studies at uni. The way that you get it: you write down, on a piece of paper, the names of all the characters you can think of on the show that are people of colour, or women, and then look at what they have in common.

Well I see TV as kind of slightly idealised real life and am offended at the idea that awesome women and a variety of people who look different aren't part of their ideal world.

Supernatural was AMAZING this week. Seriously, I can't believe how good it was. Well, I can, because when it is good, it's good. But ahjdsfhjksd still.

Misha Misha Misha Jensen Jensen Jensen how are you so talented and pretty and amazing?

Next week is gonna be, like, Sam sitting in an empty room or something, cause they must have spent their entire budget on this episode. WOW. The set design was SO good, I love love love good post-apocalyptic futures and this was SO good.

I hear you on the "The only girl they had was a love interest for Dean" thing, too. But everything else was seriously perfect.

From: [identity profile] subtle--sarcasm.livejournal.com

Oh and OMG PEOPLE STOP CALLING HIM CAS!!!!!! I didn't mind that much with future!him, it seemed to fit somehow. But in the present, it's just ridiculous. It's one thing for Dean to do it, because it's something Dean would do. But everyone else, and ESPECIALLY THE OTHER ANGELS???? Ugh. It annoys me every single time.

From: [identity profile] green-queen.livejournal.com

UGH, YES, EXACTLY THIS. WORD FOR WORD THIS. Dean calling Castiel "Cas" fits perfectly, but why does everyone ELSE keep doing it??? It's not his name!

We get a couple of really great episodes a season, and it keeps me going through the "Jump the Shark"s. I will never get over that awful, awful episode.

THEY ARE SO TALENTED. AND PRETTY. AND AMAZING. Rally, though, Jensen Ackles deserves a big ol' gold star, because he is so good in this role, and it goes totally unappreciated by all but the crazy fangirls. And Jared's getting better, too. He was really great in "Free to Be You and Me". A bit less so as the devil, but he's getting there. So pretty, too.

THIS WAS SO GORGEOUS. Oh, and juxtaposing it with the leafy track where they boys met up at the end was brilliant. Then again, it's not like the production design or cinematography ever lets us down on the show. ♥

I think I could be in love with the idea of a Glee love square if it means more Quinn/Puck and some Puck/Rachel (oohhhh intriguing!). Just... please show, don't turn into Grey's Anatomy where everybody sleeps with everybody else.
