Here's the list of nominees for this year's Academy Awards.

Obvious omission: no Christopher Nolan for Best Director.

My thoughts:

Best Picture: The Social Network
Best Director: I don't think David Fincher can or should get this for TSN, so I'm going out of the box with Darren Aronofsky.
Best Actor: Colin Firth
Best Actress: Natalie Portman
Best Supporting Actor: Christian Bale
Best Supporting Actress: Helena Bonham Carter (I HOPE, although I think Melissa Leo has a chance and if they really want to go out of the box they'll go Jacki Weaver)
Best Animated: Toy Story 3
Best Original Screenplay: The King's Speech
Best Adapted Screenplay: The Social Network

The only really good thing I got out of this: James Franco is now an Oscar nominated actor, FUCK YEAH. Otherwise, I don't think this year is going to be a tight race, and I think Inception got shafted.

I'm going for the King's Speech for three reasons, one, it was my pick out of the 4 nominated movies I've seen, two, the Producers Guild Awards is a good portend to best pic, and they chose TKS and in one of the biggest upsets in Oscar history, Shakespeare in Love won over Saving Private Ryan..and Colin and Geoffrey were both in SiL..they're lucky charms!! :)

Actor, obviously Colin, SA, yes, Christian..but Supporting Actress, I loved HBC and Melissa but I have to say this, that Hailee girl we UNREAL in True Grit, honestly I thought she should have won Best Actress, not just be nominated for best supporting.

Yeah, I'm thinking The King's Speech might take it, but I'm so setting myself up for disappointment this year. The Social Network was just so mediocre, so I'm sort of resigned to the idea that it will win.

I don't know if they'll give it to her. Even if she was phenomenal, there hasn't been much buzz. Then again, I haven't been paying that much attention, I've been in my little Darren bubble.

Has James Franco not been nominated before? I don't know why I thought he had been. Regardless, I'm happy for him.

I just watched 127 Hours tonight and he totally deserves that nomination. I'm sure he won't win, but I think his performance might be the only one that really gives Colin Firth some competition.

I don't know if I can manage 127 Hours, tbh. Maybe I'll wait until it's on DVD and I can skip over the whole hand-cutting thing.

You can't skip where he cuts off his arm! You spend the whole movie knowing it's coming, and yes, it's hard to watch, but it's important too. It's the whole point of the movie! (And he's so good! His performance is SO GOOD).

I didn't think I'd be able to but I was. It's not that long a scene, maybe 3 minutes? And a lot is focused on his face. If that helps.

Or you could just hide your eyes, but definitely see the movie.

Geez, bossy.

3 minutes that feel like an hour, I bet. Seriously, I feel kind of queasy thinking about it. I have a thing about hands.

Me, bossy? Noooooo. JUST DO IT, KATIE. I DON'T CARE ABOUT YOUR THING WITH HANDS. lol

Seriously, though, however you need to watch it, you should, even if it means you fast forward past the hand scene. James would want you to. :)

ILU!

I will watch it at some point. Just maybe not at the cinema.

Scott Pilgrim got shafted in the visual effects and sound editing categories.

Emma Watson should have been an outside chance for HP7.1

I think all of the trio were amazing in HP7, and singling out Emma would be mean.

I agree about Scott Pilgrim, though.
