It's Not Easy Being Green

Oscars: Yes, lovely, no big surprises (except Tilda Swinton, which was a nice surprise and not so much an 'upset') and the movies I liked won (and, equally importantly, the films I didn't like didn't win.) Everyone looked pretty. I kind of adore Amy Adams.

Sucky thing: We didn't see Best Documentary Short or Best FOREIGN FILM here. The first I get, but wtf, foreign film?!?! Can you say GLARING OMISSION?

I've had a total rollercoaster of a day.

It started off terribly, I was woken up at about 7 with a splitting headache that pretty much never went away. I went to see Pirates 2, which I enjoyed a huge amount, but I also had two huge screaming matches with my sister and my migraine was bad enough I couldn't see for about 5 minutes at one point and I had to call in sick to work. I almost fell asleep during The Two Towers, which is pretty much an inexcusable travesty for me. Now I'm pretty much wrecked.

Dead. Jensen and Jared and gay and masturbation and nudity and...just...dead.

Jake and Heath join the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, along with Keira and Dakota Fanning. Clearly a weak attempt to correct their big Best Picture mistake, as is usual with the Academy, but this can't be bad - at least there'll be some new, non-homophobic blood in one of the most conservative institutions left in Hollywood.

So yeah, this morning I went to see ( Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest - spoiler free!! )

So, tonight at about midnight I finally got around to watching ( Crash )

Conclusion: Actors good, Michael Pena, Don Cheadle, Terrence Howard and Ryan Phillippe all very pretty boys, but I'd rather see cowboys making out kthanks. And I missed Tony Danza somehow!!! I mustn't have been paying attention all that well.

In my inexpert opinion, this last 'Oscar year' has been an excellent one for movies.

I've heard a lot that the actual box-office earnings have been lower than average this year. I think part of that is the fact that there's a lot of really good programming coming back to TV, but I also think I've seen some really excellent movies this year. For instance, tonight I saw...
