I haven't really checked my flist for days, and probably won't any time soon: I've got prac, birthdays, plays and other real life things stealing me away from my precious internet fandom. OMG NEW 'GLEE' TOMORROW!!! WHEELS! I CAN'T TELL YOU HOW EXCITED I AM FOR THIS ONE! 'Dancing With Myself' from the ep is really good. Really, really good. I can't WAIT for lots of Artie and Kurt.

Check out [livejournal.com profile] zombres's NaNoWriMo blog cuz it's awesome.

Go vote at the People's Choce Awards. Or the Idiots' Choice Awards, because there's not a hell of a lot of actual choice. I'm annoyed at the lack of an Enterprise crew nod in the "best team" category, okay? At least it's nominated in "best film" cuz it IS.

Why is Joss Whedon on my shirt?

How to use an apostrophe.

Joss Whedon is filled with 'Glee'.

'Glee' OT3 spam, in this case Dianna, Lea and Mark.

More 'Glee' cast cuteness.

My dog has fleas and I have been bitten :( we have to clean...um, everything we own.

You know what? I feel that if you are going to be paid to run a professional workshop, the least you can do is to run all the hand-outs that you didn't just photocopy from a textbook through a spell and grammar check on the computer. You should also get someone to proof-read it. I'm happy to volunteer. I hate the lack of proper grammar and spelling that exists in society these days. It's lazy, and it's frustrating to someone who is as verbal as I am, and it is NOT the evolution of language, it is the BASTARDISATION of language.

I haven't been on since Saturday night because we got these enormous new couches that are the most comfortable things I've ever sat on, ever, and I don't actually want to move from in front of the TV.

Mum's birthday party on Saturday night went really well, it was loads of fun and Mitchell and I went to Cube after. Also, I have over $300 in the bank for the first time in ages. Of course, I have a parking ticket to pay off, but aside from that life's pretty sweet.

I hate with a violent passion when people say 'yous.' THE PLURAL OF YOU IS NOT YOUS. Yes, I am TALKING TO YOU, Australian Idol contestants.

WTF, Bon Jovi and My Chemical Romance are performing together in Newark, New Jersey on October 25th & 26th. I mean, I know they're both Jersey bands, but...wtf.

I love my wife. So much. I wish I had a Getty Images account, I want all those pretties.

[livejournal.com profile] ack_attack did another one of her fabulous Lost recaps, this time Tabula Rasa.

So instead of Lost, a certain person is going to be on Heroes. Casting spoilers, obviously, but OMG YAY!

Anyone who's interested, you can download the entire HSM2 soundtrack here.

Milo and Zach in Zink magazine. Fantastic photoshoot, seriously.

Everybody loves on Milo: Team hug!Masi will enjoy this clip, as will the Petrellicesters - Adrian kisses Milo on the cheek. These boys are reminding me a little of the LotR boys. There's a clip floating around somewhere of Masi and Adrian in Monte Carlo that's adorable too.

You know, I knew it was true, but the fact that James Marsters is 45 still amazes me. Happy birthday, James.

AfterEllen's Amber Benson interview, because we all love her.

Little preview of the Angel ripoff Moonlight. It's cute, but the vampire rules are a little weird. There seems to be a lot of nice-guy-vampire stuff going around right now.

Top Ten Sci-Fi Heroes, including Buffy and Cap'n Tightpants.

90's movie icons! Empire Records defines year 12 for me, and I can still recite parts of Reality Bites. Also, [livejournal.com profile] mouthfullofdust made gorgeous interest icons.

If you, like me, keep hearing about the Ballad of Jensen & Jared but hadn't seen it yet, now's your chance. LOL. I love the Chris Kane & Chad Michael Sleazebag references thrown in there. (I mean that in a loving way.)

HAPPY BIRTHDAY [livejournal.com profile] mellafe!!! I am so glad [livejournal.com profile] ack_attack hooked us up.

One of my favourite people in the whole world, Amber Benson, is thirty today. Or...yesterday, I guess. Whatever, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

Please do my character meme?

Icon Truth Meme - what do you REALLY think of my icons?

Jensen & Mike playing gay chicken? Okay, not literally, but that would be hot.

Channel Ten to air Supernatural online 5 days before it goes to air here and months after it goes to air in the States, which doesn't actually make things any better. Woot.

Hires versions of the Getty Supernatural pics that everybody's going on (and on, and on, and on) about.

On a related note, illegality reigns once again in my journal as Getty startsfining users for using their images for any purposes. I guess all of you with icons from the aforementioned images are screwed, hmm? I wonder if they'll even be able to tell with some events where there are tons of images of one person from different image providers.

Oooh, [livejournal.com profile] enginedriven made
Supernatural icons!

LOL RACHEL LOST #46! To be fair, they ARE good icons.

Joss may direct an episode of The Office. Which means I would have to watch it.

The Serenity cake.

Pretty Sean Maher film being released on DVD.

I recently bought 'Finding Serenity: Anti-heroes, Lost Shepherds and Space Hookers in Joss Whedon's Firefly' and I kind of LOVE it. Two essays on Zoe? This is my kinda book.

Apparently Alan Cumming already got married. I didn't know he was directing Boreanaz, though.

Jack Sparrow is sexually ambiguous. Johnny said so in a Rolling Stone interview. I mean, it's not EXACTLY a shock, but still, yay for confirmation. Also, he's a total doll. He's definitely challenging Nathan Fillion for the trophy as Best Captain EVER.

Seriously, you Americans need to get Jon Stewart to run for president. Also, this Fox news bit on Jon Stewart's affect on voting is sort of mindboggling. SMART PEOPLE like to watch the Daily Show. Jon Stewart is obviously cynical because he wants things to be better. He doesn't encourage people to be apathetic, he encourages people to vote and try to fix things because let's face it, they suck. The other problem is that if Fox News is the alternative, people aren't getting news, they're getting propaganda.

I actually came across 'shore' instead of 'sure' today. WTF.

On the characterisation of John Winchester:

Why is it he's so often characterised as an abusive, alcoholic father? I think the reunion scene in Shadow tells us at least two things that people seem to have forgotten since his return in Dead Man's Blood: one, that he loves and is protective of his sons, and two, that he is perfectly capable of being physically affectionate with them. Another episode people seem to overlook a lot in their characterisation of John is Home. Dean is obviously very comfortable with his father - comfortable enough to show weakness by crying while leaving the phone message - and John knew enough to come and make sure they were OK when Dean begged him to.

The fact that he didn't show up in Faith is another sore point for me. Nobody seems to remember what Sam's message to John actually said. He said that Dean was sick and the doctors said there was nothing they could do, but not to worry about it because he would do 'whatever it takes' to get Dean better. He also gives no indication that Dean's illness isn't supernatural. Now, okay, John probably should've checked, but by all fan accounts one would think John knew exactly what had happened to Dean and have come running to his deathbed.

Granted, I haven't seen Salvation or Devil's Trap yet, but I've read most of John's lines from the episodes. I'm not saying John is a perfect person or a perfect father but for fuck's sake, he isn't THAT bad. There is NO indication that he would ever abuse his sons.

Anyway.

I'm sick and it sucks.

Grammar lesson(s) of the Day:

1. There is NO SUCH WORD AS ADDICTING. The word is ADDICTIVE. It's a perfectly good word, so why people will insist on making up another one is beyond me.

2. The past tense of DRAG is DRAGGED. The word DRUG refers only to mind-altering substances and medicine.

ETA: though it's almost worth it when the trend of adding "-age" to words leads to the wonderful error of someone actually mistakenly writing "bondage" instead of "bonding."

Green Queen's Grammar Lesson of the day:

Plurals. Adding an 's' to the end of a word in English can be taken to mean many things. For example, if you would like to indicate that you are using a possessive, you might use an apostrophe followed by an 's', as in "The cat's paws." Note how there is NO apostrophe before the 's' that has been added to the word 'paw.' That's because in that instance, I was trying to indicate a PLURAL.

APOSTROPHE = POSSESSIVE
NO APOSTROPHE = PLURAL

Except, of course, for ITS, which has NO APOSTROPHE in its possessive form. IT'S is still a contraction of IT IS.

Thankyou for your attention. Here, have some Moseley.

Don't forget to give me Christmas songs! If anyone has a version of Feliz Navidad without Elmo I'd be eternally grateful, I get enough Elmo at work.

ETA: The penguin-batting game is addictive. NOT addicting, because addicting is NOT A WORD.
And the past tense of DRAG is DRAGGED, NOT drug.

Thanks!

Dude, Blade Runner kinda completely and utterly *sucks*.

Movie reviews )
David and Margaret gave Serenity 3 1/2 stars out of 5, which I was very happy with. I think it's proven a theory I've been pondering about the movie. Generally Margaret represents the intelligent but regular audience and David the bitchy film critics. Their reviews led me to believe that Serenity is the kind of movie that's got just enough of everything to please everyone - it's got loads of action and funny lines but it's also got that lovely edge to it that makes it a critical success as well. At least, in my opinion. To be honest, Margaret Pomeranz is about the only film critic I pay much attention to.

Meanwhile, it's pouring down rain, and my morning at work was *exhausting.* There were farm animals.

When you see this on your flist, quote Firefly. (stolen from [livejournal.com profile] ceirdwyn, [livejournal.com profile] indilime, [livejournal.com profile] greedy_dancer, [livejournal.com profile] zoniduck)

Firstly, EVERYONE's favourite quote:
Stegosaurus: Yes this is a fertile land, and we will thrive. We will rule over all this land, and we will call it... This Land.
T-Rex: I think we should call it your grave.
Stegosaurus: Aah! Curse your sudden but inevitable betrayal.
T-Rex: Hahaha. Mine is an evil laugh! Now DIE.
Stegosaurus: Oh no, god! Oh dear god in heaven!

Secondly, a personal favourite quote:
Mal: Well, look at this! Appears we got here just in the nick of time. What d'you suppose that makes us?
Zoe: Big damn heroes, sir.
Mal: Ain't we just.

Oh, and proof Simon can be funny:
Book: I'd forgotten you're moonlighting as a criminal mastermind now. Got your next heist planned?
Simon: No. But I'm thinking about growing a big black mustache. I'm a traditionalist.

(I love everything Zoe says, because she's so crazy deadpan. It always, always works.)

Time for my Australian Idol bad grammar pet peeve: SANG vs. SUNG.

It is not "I sung Somewhere Over the Rainbow before," or "my English teacher sung that to me in high school." It is sang. You can say I have sung or I had sung, but NEVER "I sung."

By the same token, you can't say "I have sang."

EVERY SINGLE CONTESTANT and EVERY JUDGE with the possible exception of Marcia Hines gets this wrong, and I yell the correct grammar at the TV every time. It's just one of those irritatingly common mistakes.

From [livejournal.com profile] luna_k:

Write down 5 things you want to know about people on your friends list. Have them post the answers in your comments and post this is their journal with 5 things they want to know about people on their friends list.

1. What's one song you couldn't live without that you don't think I have?

2. What movie are you most looking forward to?

3. If you're not from Australia, what preconceived notions do you have of this country?

4. If you are from Australia, do you have preconceived notions of other countries? Which ones?

5. What one grammar or spelling mistake do you hate the most?

OMG JOSS TOMORROW NIGHT *dies* I'm gonna take a notebook and try to take notes like at PJ's thing.
